I have met many Doughertys but I have found none as more researched as you about the Irish roots. I an astounded of how well researched you are and am enjoying everything I am reading. Comments about the web site: I enjoyed the websight and I have been thinking of setting up a websight of branches and trunks I am connected with. I am the great-grandson of Martha Jane Dougherty (my mother's father's mother) who was the great-granddaughter of James Dougherty based on information I received from Vera (Stevens) Mullet which was based on information sent to her by a Barbara (Dougherty) Young. I am curious about confirmation of a presumed link to the O'Dochartaigh clan. I had contacted the Clan headquarters by email and I never got a price as to how much it would cost me to complete the research to confirm or deny a link to the clan. Thank you, Wm Young,

Comments about the web site: I would love to know when the 2006 reunion is planned. Can you send me the dates and info. I live in America, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. My mother was a Dougherty. Her father James Dougherty came to America around the turn of the century. (He was born in Donegal in 1886). I am going to be applying for my dual citizenship in the next few months and do hope to come and see my families roots. My dad was born in Balbriggan, March 22, 1911. His name was James A. Canty. He just passed away last year. Good to talk to you.

Comments about the web site: I live in Australia and I have done my Dohery family research here and going back to Manchester in England 1850's and 60's with departure of g,g,grandparents William and Eliza Doherty nee Hood from Ireland together with two sons, from Portadown, County Armagh in the early 1850's. Can't really go any further back with the information i have but am very happy to be amember of this quite illustrious clan. But, are we all connected with the Doherty Name truly? Suggestion elsewhere that the "commoners" would have at some stage taken the name of their "overlord" after the English came in 17th century. If this is the case, we do not really have the ancient heritage as such. Just throwing a spanner into the ointment [fly into the works] as I am a "Destroyer" and "obstructive" as the family motto says. Thanks for your website.

Comments about the web site: Michael, You probably get this all the time, but I'm descended from Charles Dougherty, a son of the Dan Dougherty who founded Dougherty, Iowa. I'm heading to Ireland at Christmas and had read a couple of mentions online that I may have relatives still living in the Donegal area, in fact at Dan's original home. Do you know anything about this? I appreciate any sort of answer, even if you can point me in the right direction. Cheers!

Comments about the web site: My wife's great grandmother was Amanda Dougherty (part of the Texas clan that uses the "o"). Amanda's dad was Robert Newberry Dougherty who founded a little town down in Texas. The town is gone but the Dougherty Cemetery remains. The closest town to it that exists today is Emory, Texas. We have been going down to Family Reunions there for the past few years and got to know quite a few of the people. Our link to you is: Amanda/ Robert Newberry/ James William/ Robert/ Michael/ Michael Mor/ & Liam. Enjoyed your website and learned a lot from it. Let me see if I got this straight. Niall of the Nine Hostages was one of the people who was responsible for kidnapping St. Patrick and bringing him to Ireland. Right? This was before he was sold into slavery in Europe if I have my facts right. His return to Ireland as a priest was voluntary, right? Great website!
